Concept/Research

My goal for this production was to focus on Eliza’s journey. She starts as a poor woman and Henry Higgins is intrigued by her as a project. His behavior is very condescending to Eliza, so while she is in his home being taught by him, her costumes reflect a very young look to show the infantilization she is put through. It peaks in a humiliatingly ridiculous dress that she wears to the races, making a fool of herself. However, at the ball she is able to more easily come into her own and as she separates herself from Henry Higgins her dress far better reflects the mature, capable woman that she is.
